This week we dive into the latest beer from Sapporo. And like always, we found the latest news and articles from the Japanese food and beverage industry.
Sapporo Pure: Exceptional Light Beer?
Sapporo brews the best-selling Asian beers in North America. And this spring, they released Pure, a feather-light lager with only 90 calories and 2.4 grams of carbs.

Deal of the Week
Wakatake Onikoroshi Junmai Daiginjo
Last week we discussed one of the best sakes you can find online: Azumaichi Junmai. We were surprised to find this hard-to-get sake on Tippsy.
This week, we’re eyeballing another Tippsy Sake: Wakatake Onikoroshi Junmai Daiginjo. This “Demon Slayer” sake is another cult favorite and is killer with sashimi and maki sushi. It’s the epitome of soft and smooth and is also one of the juiciest fruit-bombs on the market.

Snacking on Crickets
Gryllus, a company from Naruto, Tokushima has Japan buzzing with their hugely successful cricket-based rice crackers and cookies. This future food is promising for its sustainability, as well as its nutritional value.

Two New Authentic Japanese Single Malts Hit the Market
The maker (bottler) of Togouchi fake Japanese whisky has gone legit by investing in their own copper hybrid still and making whisky in-house.
Their two new single malts, Togouchi and Sakurao, are still young at only three years of age. However, the company’s Sakurao gins are delicious, so we have high expectations for their whiskies in the future.
Nikkei Asia has the story of this reformed whisky producer’s newest products.
Making Umeshu at Home
Making umeshu at home is a rewarding and tasty endeavor. And it’s still (probably) not too late to pick up your own Japanese plums to try it for yourself.
