This week I’m mixing up more shiso mojitos. And I continue my 31 Days of Sushi campaign which includes posts about hirame, unagi, and inari.
I also found entertaining articles about boozy ice cream, illegal Japanese whisky, and French sake.
Japanese Shiso Mojito
Last week I found a pretty interesting shiso mojito recipe from Minami of Vancouver. And because I love this cocktail, it seems right to dedicate a post to it.

Learn how the French are changing the sake landscape and why they’re such a good match from Nikkei Asia.
Guessing at Pompeo’s Ill-Gotten Japanese Whisky
Politicos and Japanese whisky enthusiasts have probably heard about the former Secretary of State’s whisky scandal. To summarize, he was gifted a $5,800 bottle of Japanese whisky, which was illegal for him to accept.
But accept he did, and then he supposedly lost it.
These swampy shenanigans aside, the question I found myself asking has yet to be answered.
What whisky was it?
And I guess I’m not alone. Inside Hook took an educated guess at Pompeo’s missing whisky. It’s a solid effort on their part.
