Nikka Whisky was founded by Masataka Taketsuru. He traveled to Scotland to learn whisky-making, then back in Japan, helped Shinjiro Torii found the Yamazaki Distillery.
That relationship didn’t last too long after Yamazaki was opened. Taketsuru-san went on to establish the Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido.
