Nigiri and Sashimi Platter

Sushi and sashimi are incredibly popular types of Japanese food. The sushi category is vast with many types of dishes. Popular types of sushi include nigiri, maki (rolls), and chirashi.

Sashimi is simply cuts of raw meat. Seafood is by far the most common type of sashimi one will encounter.

Countless ingredients are used to make sushi and sashimi. Popular seafood choices include maguro (tuna), hamachi (yellowtail), kanpachi (amberjack), saba (mackerel), madai (sea bream), sake (salmon), hotate (scallop), ebi (shrimp), tako (octopus), ikura (salmon roe), and uni (sea urchin).

Many types of vegetables, including pickles, are also commonly found in sushi.
