Suntory Shirofuda was the first authentic Japanese whisky. It was produced in the early years of Yamazaki. Famously, it was the only whisky make when both Masataka Taketsuru and Shinjiro Torii worked together.
Suntory Shirofuda was not the big success that would be expected. Whisky was still foreign to the Japanese public when it was released. Taketsuru and Torii would split up and become rivals. Japanese whisky history would never be the same.
